Health and Safety
At Chinnery Construction Limited, safety comes first - every day, on every job. We’re committed to making sure everyone on site, including our team and subcontractors, goes home safe at the end of the day.
We follow all health and safety laws and regulations, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA), and stick to proven safe work practices on every project. Our crew is trained to spot and manage hazards early, keeping our worksites safe and well-run from start to finish.
Our SiteWise certification shows the effort we put into doing things the right way. Safety isn’t just a requirement for us - it’s part of who we are.

At Chinnery Construction, all subcontractors work under a site-specific agreement that ensures compliance with our company requirements and health & safety standards. Before any project begins, subcontractors must be pre-qualified and approved.
Our subcontractors are also part of Chinnery Construction’s ongoing monitoring and improvement program, with regular audits to maintain the high standards we uphold across all our projects.

Effective risk management is a cornerstone of our approach to construction safety. Every project begins with a comprehensive risk assessment, identifying potential hazards and developing strategies to eliminate or control them. From machinery operation to environmental factors and site access, no detail is overlooked. Our safety plans are regularly reviewed and updated to respond to changing conditions, ensuring that all projects are executed safely and efficiently, protecting both people and property.

When it is required, North Canterbury Services prepares a Temporary Traffic Management Plan (TMP) for us here at Chinnery Construction, which is submitted to the relevant Road Controlling Authority for approval. We place particular emphasis on keeping access routes clear and safe for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
All traffic management activities are carried out in strict accordance with the Codes of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (COPTTM). A qualified Traffic Controller is present on site during all phases requiring traffic management, and regular internal traffic audits are conducted to ensure the plan operates effectively and safely.
